2008 "Service Above Self" Scholarships

My name is Tony Hwang and I will be serving as the Chairman for this year! If you should have any questions, feel free to call me at anytime. My contact information is 203-255-5555; e-mail: tony@tonyhwang.com; fax: 203-549-0494.

The Fairfield Rotary Club Foundation will award seven scholarships of $3,000 each to college-bound high school seniors this spring. These scholarships will be granted to students in four-area towns who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to community service - "Service above Self" - during their high school years.

Applicants should include a brief essay describing what the idea of "Service Above Self" means to them. "Service Above Self" is the official motto of Rotary International, which is commemorating its 103rd year of humanitarian service and fostering peace and goodwill in communities throughout the world. Go to www.rotary.org for more "Service Above Self" information.

High school seniors who live in Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, or Redding, or attend schools in these towns but live elsewhere, are eligible to apply. Applications are available at the following schools: Bassick High School, Bullard Havens Regional Vocational Technical School, Central High School and Central Magnet High School, Fairfield Warde High School, Fairfield Ludlowe High School, Fairfield Prep, Harding High School, Joel Barlow High School, Kolbe Cathedral High School, and Notre Dame High School or by PDF download from Fairfield Rotary's website, www.fairfieldrotary.org.  The application needs to be filled out completely and must include letters of recommendation; "Service above Self" essay and FAFSA (Student Financial Aid form).

To qualify, a student must be planning to enroll at an accredited four-year college, two-year college, or post- secondary trade or vocational/technical school with a program of study of one year or longer. The deadline for receipt of applications is April 30th. Immediate relatives of Rotarians are not eligible to apply.
