Fairfield Rotary Club Foundation Grants for 2008

 

 

Scott McCain presided over the presentation of the Fairfield Scott McCainRotary Club Grants for 2008 on November 24. Scott thanked the committee members of Gene Richter, Norma Peterson, Mary-Margaret Weber, Vance Hancock and Gary Kealey. This year 27 applications were received - an increase from last year's 22 applications.

Applications for grants must be submitted in the month of September to be considered and the Fairfield Rotary Club announces the allocations in November. The Grant Application form is available on the Club Grants Project page. The twelve grant recipients for 2008, totaling $18,947.50, are:

Albert Schweitzer Hospital

$1,500 was presented to Dr. Bill Kueffner representing Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Haiti (sponsor: Bill Kueffner).

The Fairfield Rotary Club has been donating to the Albert Schweitzer Hospital since 1985. The grant will be used to purchase 30 blood pressure cuffs.

$222.50 was presented to Fairfield Public Schools and the American Red Cross (sponsor: Bill Llewellyn).

The grant will be used for the Scrubby Bear Project of the American Red Cross.

Operation Hope

$2,500 was presented to Liz Bennett and Carla Miklos representing Operation Hope (sponsor: Mary-Margaret Weber).

The grant will be used to build a new medical care room.

Thomas Merton Center

$2,200 was presented to Mark Grasso representing the Thomas Merton Center (sponsor: Jim Hughes).

The grant will be used to repair their bathroom.

Bridgeport Rescue Mission

$2,500 was presented to Terry Wilcox and Linda Casey representing the Bridgeport Rescue Mission (sponsors: Terry Medlin and John Lee).

The grant will be used to purchase a commercial washing machine.

Black Rock Food Pantry

$800 was presented to John Lee representing the Black Rock Food Pantry (sponsor: John Lee).

The grant will be used to purchase infant supplies.

Community Closet

$1,000 was presented to Laurie Gross and Karen Seferi representing the Community Closet (sponsor: George Markley).

The grant will be used to support their back-to-school project.

Fairfield Museum and History Center

$725 was presented to Mike Jehle representing the Fairfield Museum and History Center (sponsor: Mary-Margaret Weber).

The grant will be used to purchase a new printer.

Caroline House

$2,500 was presented to Mary Ellen Gavin representing Caroline House (sponsor: Kevin Lesko).

The grant will be used to support their mother/child literacy program.

Fairfield Follies Foundation

$1,500 was presented to Marje Tracy and Debbie Clancy representing the Fairfield Follies Foundation (sponsor: Marje Tracy).

The grant will be used to support their operating and production costs.

Mercy Learning Center

$1,500 was presented to Kathy Parisi representing the Mercy Learning Center (sponsor: Gene Richter).

The grant will be used to support their emergency assistance fund.

Dress for Success

$2,000 was presented to Katie Gallagher and Juel Crawford representing Dress for Success (sponsor: Peter Penczer).

The grant will be used to upgrade training materials.
